SDS Screening Service:
the fastest way to understand your SDS portfolio
Many companies are managing Safety Data Sheets by saving pdf files in different locations and by creating extended .xls to keep track of all the changes and updates.
The amount of incoming/received SDSs and their revisions to be managed is growing and it becomes extremely difficult to properly manage incoming Safety Data Sheets.
Did I receive all the SDSs from my suppliers? What is the latest and current version? How many versions of the same file do I have?
SDS Screening is a service to help companies to get a comprehensive overview of their SDS portfolio the fastest way.
Do you manage 1.000, 5.000 or 10.000 SDS files? ChemParser will automatically screen your SDS and generate a comprehensive report containing:
- a list of all Safety Data Sheets (including trade name, file name, supplier name, date of revision and language);
- a list of duplicated SDS by file name (same SDS but with different file names);
- a list of duplicated SDS by supplier/provider name (same company with another name);
- a list of obsolete SDS (ageing index superior to 2 years);
- a list of all files that are not SDS.
Example of SDS Screening Service results
In this example, Chemparser automatically detected 21 SDS files for 7 mixtures, equal to 14 duplicated SDS files (different pdf files with same product name), equal to 7% of the total amount of valid SDS.
Thanks to the results of the SDS Screening service, HSE managers are able to get a comprehensive overview of their current SDS portfolio and consistently reduce the amount of SDS to be managed by archiving the older versions (obsolete) and by keeping and managing the latest version only.
In this example, the total number of pdf files screened is 214. ChemParser automatically detected 204 valid SDS files and 10 pdf files which are either raster, corrupted pdf files or other PDF files (technical sheets or other files).
The screening report also shows the distribution of the valid SDS files by substances (21) and mixtures (183) and by supplier (90 suppliers).

The overall ageing index is an indicator that helps to understand if your organisation is working with up to date Safety Data Sheets or with older SDS versions.
The ageing index is automatically calculated: the difference between the total of years/months of the SDS revision date and the current date.
An ageing index of 2 means that the SDS has been updated during the current or past year. If the ageing index is superior to 4, you are probably working with outdated SDSs and should ask your supplier or manufacturer for the newest version.
